Buy The Charter Club Feather Down Pillow For Less

Last Updated on March 30, 2023

Are you shopping for a Charter Club Feather Down Pillow from Macy’s? Is the $160-$200 price tag too much for your budget?

As you might have already guessed, Macy’s doesn’t actually manufacture these chamber pillows. They are made for Macy’s by a company called Downlite.

So, you can actually buy a “generic” version of the Chamber pillow on Amazon, or in our store for much less!

The “generic” Downlite version is the exact same pillow. But, the Charter Club version at Macy’s comes with an extra outer 325-thread count damask striped pillow cover.

And if you’re going to use your own pillowcase anyway, then that outer striped pillowcase is a moot point, right?

What You See At Macy’s

The Charter Club 360Down Chamber pillow, which is also called a Down Surround pillow, comes in a plastic package, with a tan cardboard insert.

If you’ve shopped at the store, then the pillow looked something like below, right?

And, if you take the pillow out of the package, that outer pillowcase has a zipper on one side.

If you unzip that outer cover, it will reveal the actual pillow inside. And if you take a look, it will have a long tag like any other pillow.

That tag should look like this…

Did you notice the “DOWNLITE” section by the red arrow?

Yup, these are actually Downlite pillows that have been dressed up to justify the $200 price tag. But, you don’t have to pay that much.

The pillows on Amazon, or in our store sell for much less, of course!

What’s In The Charter Club Feather Down Pillow?

We already mentioned the 325-thread count cotton outer pillowcase. But what’s in the actual pillow?

The Charter Club 360Down Chamber pillow has…

  • A 230-thread-count cambric cotton cover
  • 39oz. fill for Standard size / 49oz. fill for King size
  • 10/90 white goose feather blend in the inner chamber
  • 600 fill power RDS white goose down in the outer chambers
  • Piped edges

What’s In The Downlite Feather Down Pillow?

The generic Downlite Chamber pillow comes in two versions – goose down, and duck down.

A Chamber pillow from Downlite brand.

Goose Down & Feather

The goose-down version, which is the one available on Amazon has…

  • A 230-thread-count cambric cotton cover
  • 39oz. fill for Standard size / 44oz. fill for Queen size / 49oz. fill for King size
  • 10/90 white goose feather blend in the inner chamber
  • 600 fill power RDS white goose down in the outer chambers
  • Piped edges

So, the Downlite Goose Down/Feather Chamber pillow is identical to the actual pillow inside of the Charter Club 360 Down/Feather pillow.

Duck Down & Feather

The duck-down version, which is the one available in our store has…

  • A 230-thread-count cambric cotton cover
  • 34oz. of fill for Standard size / 40oz. of fill for Queen size / 48oz. of fill for King size
  • 5/95 white duck feather blend in the inner chamber
  • 550 fill power white duck down in the outer chambers
  • Piped edges

So, the Duck down version is very similar to the goose version. Duck down costs significantly less than goose down, so the pillow itself is much cheaper in price as well.

Charter Club Feather Down Pillow Review

Regardless of which pillow you choose, let’s look at what a chamber pillow is, and if it’s right for you.

A chamber pillow is not like a traditional pillow. Most pillows are basically a big bag full of whatever – goose down, feathers, polyester batting, etc.

A chamber pillow, on the other hand, has three chambers. There are two chambers on the outside that contain goose or duck down. And a chamber in the middle, full of a feather/down blend.

This is why they’re also known as a “down surround” pillow. The down surrounds the feather/down blend inside.

Is The Charter Club Feather Down Pillow Right For You?

Like anything else, of course, it depends on you, your sleeping position, and your preferences.

Are you a back or side sleeper? Do your other pillows cause neck pain? Do you find yourself wanting more support from your pillow?

If you answered yes, to those questions, then a chamber pillow is most likely right for you.

If you lay down on your side, with your head directly on the middle part of the pillow, does your head tilt at a downward angle? Or maybe even upward, for example?

If so, your pillow isn’t providing the right level of support – and that is the cause of your neck pain in the morning. What you need is for your head and neck to be aligned with the rest of your spine, like this…

Proper Neck Support

The problem with most pillows is that they deflate under the weight of your head.

They’ll feel soft and squishy when you first lay down, but then your head slowly sinks in. And that is what causes your neck to be out of alignment.

A chamber pillow solves this issue with the inner feather and down chamber. Feathers have structural integrity. They don’t buckle under the weight of your head like goose down, or polyester, for example.

But feathers alone can feel stiff, so the two outer layers of down are added for comfort.

How To Maintain A Feather & Down Pillow

Let’s close this out with a few quick words about pillow maintenance.

Most pillows wear out from improper maintenance, not from actual use. So, let’s discuss proper maintenance.

Don’t Wash Your Pillow As Often

Since washing your pillow leads to more wear and tear, a simple way to preserve your pillow is to wash it less often. You can actually wash your pillow just once a year if you use a pillow protector.

Just make sure that it’s the zippered kind, not the envelope closure type.

A pillow protector will keep your pillow clean. It provides a waterproof barrier, so you won’t have any yellow sweat stains or odors.

It will also block bed bugs from getting in, of course, and destroy the inside.

Pillow Break-In Period

Your new feather and down pillow will feel a little stiff at first.

When you first take it out of the package, give it a gentle fluff. That will loosen things up a little. After that, just sleep on it for a few nights.

Within 2 or 3 nights, your pillow should feel just right.
