Design Your Bedroom Like a 5-Star Hotel Room

Five Star Bedroom

Do you love the glitz and glamour of a 5 star hotel room?  You can create the same effect in your own room at home.  For the epitome of comfort and decadent luxury, follow these tips from the top hotel decorators.

Color Palette- If you truly want to reproduce the hotel room look, go with a monochromatic and sophisticated tone.  Quiet, soothing color combinations like sage and pearl look classy and add the aura of calm to your getaway space.

  • Multi task Small SpacesHotel decorators have to make the most of small areas, and are good at dual purposing.  Have a revolving chair face your desk on one side, or turn to face the T.V. on the other.  A large ottoman or low table can be used to rest your feet, as a game board, or as an impromptu dining area.  Think outside of the box when considering furnishings.
  •

FurnishingsSoften your space with a chaise.  Add upholstered chairs, a puffy ottoman and a majestic padded headboard. Top it off with a place to sit and tie your shoes, maybe a cushioned bench at the end of the bed.

Bed - Purchase the best quality mattress you can afford.  Along the same lines you’ll want to invest in 300-400 thread count sheets and pillowcases.  Add lots of sleeping pillows as well as throw pillows -the fluffier the better, and don’t forget a comfy duvet or throw to snuggle up in while you indulge in your latest novel.

LightingSpeaking of reading, consider lighting.  How about an elegant chandelier, wall sconce, or attractive floor lamps. A gorgeous bedside lamp can also work as an accent piece when placed atop your nightstand.

Nightstands - If you have enough room, go for a matched pair - one on either side of your bed .  In addition to props for you decorative lamps, nightstands serve as a place to set your drink and midnight snacks.

Mini RefrigeratorDid someone mention snacks? What better place to store them than in your mini fridge, this way you don’t have to trek all the way to the kitchen  in search of Bonbons or your favorite beverage.  (It’s O.K. to pamper yourself, this is your decadent hideaway remember?)

Hideaway WallsCover them with artwork.  From family photos to the old masters – surround yourself with whatever makes you happy.

Now you’ve got the makings of a great getaway room, one that rivals an expensive stay at the Ritz.  Come on in, put your feet up, and enjoy your stay.

I know the thread count is all about comfort, but does it make any difference to durability? Does a certain count wear slower than others?
